Training & Self-employment Program

The organization recognized early on that successful programs require economic upliftment. Therefore, it emphasizes income generation through skill development training, creating new earning opportunities for youth and women to achieve self-reliance. This year, it continues to implement initiatives aimed at enhancing livelihoods and fostering independence within the community.

Mushroom Production Cum Training Program-

The organization is actively promoting mushroom cultivation in the rural areas of Malda and nearby districts, recognizing its nutritional value as a superior protein source compared to fish, eggs, and meat. Affordable and accessible, mushrooms can easily be integrated into the daily diets of local villagers, particularly benefiting children.

To support this initiative, a production center has been established in Kaliachak-III Block. This center serves as both a production facility and a live training hub, allowing community members to observe the cultivation process firsthand. Interested individuals, especially women, are encouraged to participate in training sessions, where they learn mushroom farming techniques that can be implemented even in small spaces at home.

Under the guidance of skilled workers, trainees engage in hands-on practice, making the learning process more effective and enjoyable. The production center has the capacity to produce 600 kilograms of mushrooms monthly, ensuring a steady supply for local markets. Additionally, the organization takes charge of marketing the mushrooms through government-organized fairs and gatherings, creating further economic opportunities for the community. This initiative not only enhances food security but also empowers local residents by equipping them with valuable skills and knowledge.

Income Generation Program-

The 16 Mile Rural Development Society encourages youth to engage in agriculture and allied sectors as a viable means of earning a livelihood, rather than facing unemployment. The organization has held numerous meetings with youth groups throughout the block, motivating them to explore micro-level opportunities within their operational area, where earning potential is often limited. By providing comprehensive information and support, the Society has inspired many young individuals to start small businesses in agriculture.

One notable success story involves a youth group that began selling grams, which are abundantly cultivated in the region. They purchase, process, and market these grams locally, creating a sustainable income source for themselves. This initiative not only supports the local economy but also demonstrates the potential for young people to thrive in agricultural ventures. The positive results from their efforts have been encouraging, showcasing the effectiveness of the Society’s approach to fostering entrepreneurship among the youth.

Tool Kit Distribution Program for Terracotta Artisans-

The 16 Mile Rural Development Society prioritizes skill development and upgradation to meet current demands. It supports artisans in enhancing their creative skills and promotes their products through various fairs and government programs. This year, the organization has focused on promoting terracotta arts under the National Handicrafts Program, specifically aiding artisans from Uttar and Dakhin Dinajpur.

To facilitate this, artisans participated in workshops aimed at skill enhancement, and the Society distributed advanced toolkits to 50 artisans. These new tools enable them to create more intricate and beautiful terracotta pieces. This initiative not only aims to preserve and advance the region’s heritage in terracotta art but also provides artisans with opportunities to increase their income. By empowering these skilled workers, the Society fosters both cultural preservation and economic sustainability, ensuring that the art of terracotta continues to thrive in the community.

Awareness Program with Artisans of Handicrafts-

In the countryside, many artisans, particularly terracotta craftsmen in Uttar and Dakhin Dinajpur, face challenging conditions. To support these artisans and preserve their heritage, an organization held an awareness meeting focused on improving their skills and livelihoods. The discussion revealed that many artisans still rely on outdated tools and techniques, which hinder their artistic development. To address these issues, the organization emphasized the need for modernized tools and training in contemporary methods. Additionally, it was important to showcase their art on broader platforms to gain visibility and appreciation. By including these artisans in the National Handicrafts Development program, the organization aims to provide them with the necessary resources and opportunities to enhance their craft and improve their living conditions, ensuring that their traditional skills thrive in a modern context.

Online Training on Scientific Animal Husbandry Practices-

The 16 Mile Rural Development Society supports hundreds of farmers who are adopting modern and scientific farming techniques. To enhance their skills, the organization organized online training focused on scientific animal husbandry and emergency management through the Bio-Tech Kissan Hub. Approximately 206 farmers participated in the training session held at the organization’s training hall, benefiting greatly from the experience. The program not only provided valuable knowledge but also fostered a sense of community among the participants, encouraging them to share insights and best practices. By equipping farmers with the latest agricultural techniques and emergency response strategies, the organization aims to improve their productivity and resilience. This initiative highlights the importance of continuous learning in agriculture and demonstrates the potential for positive change when farmers are supported with modern resources and training opportunities. Overall, the training has empowered these farmers to enhance their farming practices effectively.
