More Activities of Organization
Investor Awareness Program-
Today, many young people are drawn to shortcuts for quick gains, often through various apps on their smartphones. Unfortunately, many of these schemes are fraudulent, leading to scams. To address this issue, an organization held awareness programs for college students, common peoples aiming to protect them from these enticing traps. The sessions focused on legitimate government schemes where participants could safely invest in the future. Discussions included fixed deposit options from RBI-approved banks and secure government initiatives. Students were cautioned against risky investments and appealing mutual funds that promise high returns but can lead to significant losses. The organization emphasized the importance of informed decision-making and financial literacy, encouraging students to prioritize secure and trustworthy investment options over quick, tempting schemes. This initiative aims to equip the youth with the knowledge they need to navigate the complex financial landscape responsibly.
Observation of Notable Day-
The 16 Mile Rural Development Society celebrates key national and international days each year, including Independence Day, Republic Day, and World Environment Day. These occasions often feature workshops and awareness meetings aimed at conveying the significance of these events to target groups. In addition to educational activities, the organization organizes competitions for children and adolescent girls, such as sit-and-draw contests and sports events, adding an element of fun. Every program emphasizes a meaningful message, reflecting the organization’s commitment to uplifting the community and ensuring that the people it serves remain at the forefront of its initiatives.
Consumer Awareness Program-
For the past few years, the 16 Mile Rural Development Society has actively conducted programs to raise awareness about consumer rights in rural areas, helping people seek justice against fraudulent practices. This year, the organization focused on engaging youth and students from higher secondary schools and colleges. A series of awareness meetings were organized in the Kaliachak-I and Kaliachak-III blocks of Malda District, aiming to equip young participants with the knowledge needed to assist their communities effectively. However, it was noted that school and college students often feel sidelined in these initiatives. To address this, the programs were conducted in collaboration with the Department of Consumer Affairs in Malda, ensuring that the messages were clear and impactful. By empowering young people with information about their rights, the organization aims to foster a sense of responsibility and community service among the next generation.
Program on Human Trafficking-
The district of Malda shares a significant international boundary with Bangladesh, making it a high-risk area for human trafficking, particularly of women and children. To combat this issue and raise awareness, the Border Security Force (BSF) collaborated with the 16 Mile Rural Development Society to conduct an awareness program. Approximately 160 participants, including women and college students, took part in the initiative. The program aimed to highlight the number of trafficking victims and the methods used to smuggle them across the border. By educating the community and fostering awareness, the initiative seeks to empower local residents to resist these inhumane practices and protect vulnerable individuals. The goal is to create a more informed and proactive neighborhood that can effectively combat trafficking and support affected individuals.
Rural Library-
A Rural Library was established in 16 Mile village a few years ago, benefiting local youth by providing access to books of their choice, daily newspapers, and journals. It serves as a community hub where young people can discuss various issues and participate in group discussions. The library also offers video conferencing and virtual classes from renowned universities, showcasing the latest inventions. However, limited funding poses a significant challenge to expanding its collection and resources. The organization is dedicated to improving the library and enhancing its informational offerings for the community.
